Branch 26 Academic Scholarship Grant
2009 / 2010 School Year
Purpose
The purpose of this scholarship grant is to provide financial assistance to Branch 26 and Branch 40 members and their immediate family. The scholarship grant is intended to assist students entering their junior year or completing their senior year.
Eligibility
The following requirements must be met in order to qualify for consideration of this scholarship:
- The applicant, the applicant’s parent,
or the applicant’s spouse must be in good standing with the local
lodge. Good standing is
considered attendance at a minimum of four meetings within the 12 months
preceding May 31 of the start of the academic school year. May 31, 2007 is the cutoff for
good standing eligibility for this academic year.
- Applicant must be entering their
junior or senior year of their first undergraduate degree.
- A grade point average of a 3.0 or
better on a 4.0 scale must be evidenced for the previous academic year.
- A school sealed copy of the
applicant’s transcript must be supplied with the application.
- The student must be enrolled on a full
time basis as defined by the university.
- The university must be licensed and
accredited.
- The completed application and supporting documents must be presented to a club officer prior to the cutoff date. This can be done at a meeting or via mail. No officer or the club is responsible for any application or supporting evidence that is lost via the postal service. It is recommended that the application and supporting documents be hand carried or sent via an overnight service with tracking support.
Scholarship Amount
The scholarship amount is determined at the sole discretion of the club membership. The current maximum scholarship amount for any one applicant is $500.00. The current aggregate amount authorized by the club is $1,500.00 for this school year. The club and its officers will decide any and all distributions.
Distribution
All funds will be distributed by corporate check and made out to the student’s school. The check will be sent directly to the school for credit to the students account. Funds will be distributed by July 31 of the start of the academic year.
Tax Reporting Responsibility
It is the recipient’s responsibility to report any required award or income to the Internal Revenue Service. By accepting any financial grant from the club, the recipient agrees to report, if necessary, the accurate amount of the grant on their annual tax return. It is recommended that the recipient seek the advice of a qualified tax preparer or accountant to advise them on any and all ramifications this grant will have on their financial reporting status. The club and its officers will not advise any recipient regarding any financial matter regarding this grant.
